Woman Trapped for Four Hours After Car Accident on Lucas Valley Road
A 53-year-old San Rafael woman's vehicle drifted off the north edge of
the roadway, hit two signposts and then careened down a 20 foot
embankment early Thursday morning.
San Rafael resident Cassandre Jade, 53, was driving her 2007 Toyota westbound on Lucas Valley Road around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 11. Jade’s vehicle drifted off the north edge of the roadway, hit two signposts and then careened down a 20 foot embankment, according to Roth.
“The vehicle came to rest in a shallow creek and was not visible from the roadway,” he said.
Jade, who was not wearing her seatbelt, sustained major injuries to her head and face, and broke her ankle. She was trapped in the vehicle for approximately four hours when a pedestrian walking along Lucas Valley Road spotted the Toyota in the creek.
The Marinwood Fire Department found Jade conscious but trapped in her vehicle. They extricated her and she was transported to Marin General Hospital.
The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. Jade is suspected of falling asleep at the wheel.
“Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in this collision,” Roth said.
